PROMOD
HAQUE
Managing Partner
Norwest Venture Partners
PERFORMANCE
Riding the wave of the client-server revolution, Promod
Haque focused on investments in enterprise software
and communications techology and made his first big
scores on Tivoli and Forte Software. He was an early
investor and a board member of Cerent Corporation (acquired
by Cisco), Siara Systems (acquired by Redback Networks),
OnDisplay (acquired by Vignette) and Winphoria Networks
(acquired by Motorola). He seeded Extreme Networks in
1996.
HERITAGE
Born in India, Promod Haque moved to the U.S. to earn
a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Northwestern
University. At that time, he had only one asset: A $4,000
loan from his father. "I knew that at the end of
the first year if I didn't make enough progress, I would
be out of cash," he has said. That experience helped
him understand the plight of startups everywhere. Haque
spent 18 years in various operational roles ranging
from product development, marketing, Chief Operating
Officer and Chief Executive Officer at a number of public
and private companies-including Siemens International,
Thorn EMI, Emergent Technologies and Dimensional Medicine,
Inc. Then, in 1990, he began vetting ideas for Norwest
Venture Partners.
ENGINEERING
Haque received a bachelor of science in electrical engineering
from the University of Delhi, India. He holds a Ph.D.
in electrical engineering from Northwestern University
and an MBA from Northwestern's Kellogg Graduate School
of Management, where he serves on the advisory board.
